Our talented staff and variety of programming will help your children learn what they like and have a great time doing it.
About the Founders
Recess was founded in 2015 by working moms Alexa Englander and Caroline Pardo. Alexa (mom of Oscar, Bo and Davis) and Caroline (mom of Nathan and Nicholas), met in the playroom of their apartment building in the days after Hurricane Sandy. They were neighbors, then friends, who shared the vision of creating a unique indoor playspace and birthday party venue that would meet the high standards of local families. They sought to offer a wide variety of enrichment classes and provide a place where kids and parents can socialize, explore, relax and have fun. After over two years of planning, it’s finally time for Recess.

The 8-Hour Playdate was held at Recess Dumbo in Brooklyn, NY. We were so pleased to see such a warm, playful setting… I knew instantly we were in for a fun day! The main play space for all the children had so much to do from slides, climbers and a hidden secret nook.

Dumbo families rejoiced when this popular tot spot opened its doors last summer. In addition to a full class schedule, dedicated drop-in play times and special drop-in events, Recess carved out a booming birthday business.
11 BROOKLYN PLAY SPACES WITH NO MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED
Equipped with custom-designed playscapes featuring slides, tunnels, poles, rope nets and more, the space also includes a lower-impact area for babies and beginner walkers outfitted with a magnetic wall, books, bead mazes and a shorter, simpler climbing structure. (The collection of big kid diversions also includes a cool bi-level cubby area with a “secret” passageway.) Clean and bright, Recess also provides a tables and chairs to have lunch or a snack, and also holds classes in a separate classroom space.
FIVE NEW AND NEWLY RENOVATED PLAY SPACES TO CHECK OUT
New to the scene as of last June, Recess boasts a jumparoo (kids bounce around on a big tube!), fireman poles, an alcoved nook with magnets and netting kids can climb, plus big and small slides.
BROOKLYN’S COOLEST PLAYSPACE FOR KIDS
In these oppressively hot summer months especially, local parents are rejoicing with the recent opening of Recess Dumbo – a play space for children ages 6 months to 6 years that offers drop-in play sessions.

JUST OPENED! RECESS PLAY & LEARNING SPACE
It’s hard to believe, but the baby-booming Brooklyn neighborhood of DUMBO [was] not home to a kids’ indoor play space. Local residents Alexa Englander and Caroline Pardo, moms to four kids collectively, particularly felt the burn of this omission for obvious reasons. Lucky for their neighbors who are parents, they’re also savvy real estate professionals and entrepreneurs who decided to take matters into their own hands. A NEW PLAYSPACE WHERE MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS PRIVILEGES
Imagine for a second an architecturally airy space for you and your children to hang out as long as you want. When you enter, you are greeted by name, and your stroller is parked in an organized lot. There’s ample seating for you and your kids to sit down for a moment and peel off sneakers and coats, without people stepping on you. Your kids are excited for the multi-leveled play structures designed by an upscale furniture designer, while you peruse the table of complimentary, healthy snacks and sip on a refreshing mint cucumber water.
